Meet our Past Interns

Jessica Dukles

“I had the privilege of working at Szarka Financial as the Graphic Design and Marketing intern for almost a year. This position gave me a variety of experiences, in which I was able to apply both my graphic design and marketing degrees. I gained experience building and maintaining a WordPress website, learned marketing strategies using social media, and expanded my graphic design skills by creating ads, newsletters, and other various print and digital media. The variety of projects I was exposed to helped me gain experience in many areas, build my portfolio and grow my skills tremendously.

Every day in the office presented an opportunity for me to apply skills I learned in school, but more importantly this internship pushed me outside of my comfort zone to learn things that cannot be taught in a classroom. The team at Szarka Financial has been so helpful and supportive in jump starting my career.  I had an amazing internship experience, and I am very grateful for the opportunities to which Szarka Financial provided me.”

“I had an amazing internship experience at Szarka Financial. I was welcomed with open arms and felt right at home. As a Graphic Design & Marketing intern I was assigned tasks, such as monitoring and posting onto the corporate websites, as well as maintaining the social media accounts, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. In addition, I honed my graphic design skills into designing the 3rd quarter newsletter and used MailChimp to send out the digital version of the newsletter.

I monitored the corporate Szarka Financial website through the WordPress platform, while maintaining plugins & Wordfence security updates. Overall, the comradery and the small tight knit family like atmosphere at Szarka was everything an intern could ask for. My experience at Szarka taught me a lot about how to be organized, efficient and consistent in the corporate world. I recommend this internship to any aspiring Graphic Artist that wants to learn both the marketing and design aspect of a corporate company.”

“I had the pleasure of interning with Szarka Financial as a Graphic Design and Marketing intern for a year and a half, and absolutely loved every minute of it. The employees at Szarka are extremely passionate about the work they do and make coming to work every day such a rewarding experience. Not only were my co-workers wonderful influences, but I also was exposed to a fast-paced environment that provided me with an abundance of responsibility and variety of projects including: print ads, a quarterly newsletter, corporate collateral, and most notably, a new, responsive WordPress website.

This challenged me as a marketer and graphic designer, and taught me how to combine my degrees to produce a successful project. Furthermore, this internship gave me the opportunity to immerse in learning more about web design. I was in charge of completely redesigning Szarka‘s website using a template compatible with WordPress. I expanded upon my coding knowledge, and also learned about web hosting companies, migration, and maintenance through a content management system. After adding Szarka‘s website to my portfolio, several companies throughout the Cleveland and Akron area have contacted me about redesigning their websites as well. My internship at Szarka was such a wonderful experience, and I am thankful for it leading to full-time career opportunities in Northeast Ohio.”

“I spent four incredibly valuable years interning at Szarka Financial. Declared a business finance major, I accepted an internship at SF following my freshmen year with aspirations of expanding my education in finance by focusing on financial planning and the general market. The following 10 weeks exceeded my wildest expectations and I found myself building my professional skill set at SF for the duration of my college career. At SF, I receiving insightful hands on coaching about how to develop soft skills, relationship building, and ways to succeed professionally from the organization president, Mike Perry, as well as from all of the planners on staff.

In addition, I gained exposure to a variety of tasks including market research for client reviews, planner market review sessions, owning a project to implement a custom reporting software, and other administrative tasks that directly translate to running your own business. Today, I work in the financial software industry and have become the youngest senior consultant at my firm. I leverage the skills developed at SF every day and credit my professional success to my time at Szarka Financial. I would highly encourage any future financial planners to consider Szarka Financial as the perfect place to begin your career.”
