“Retirement planning could be one of the most formidable tasks in our professional lives. Once you retire, you better have done your homework, saved your money and created a plan. No matter what your job was, after you stop working, you now own the ‘Family Retirement’ business. So, what’s your plan?”

Rick Martin, Senior Financial Planner at Szarka Financial, has been educating and assisting
pre-retirees and retirees on comprehensive retirement solutions since 2000.

Rick’s mission is to provide individuals with the insight they need to make informed
decisions about their retirement future and direction on how to maintain financial
independence throughout their retirement years. Rick helps individuals identify their
long-term financial goals and develop a plan to balance those goals with the investment
risk they may need to take in order to accomplish them. He uses an objective process that
projects the potential impact of inflation, healthcare and taxes. A cancer survivor, Rick
knows how important it is to consider unanticipated emergencies, such as the loss of a
job, premature death, major health issue, or long-term disability in order to develop
contingency plans.

As a Certified Financial Plannertm, Rick takes a holistic approach with his clients. He believes
that investment assets are the foundation of the retirement plan, but there are so many
other factors that come into play during people’s lives. He believes that flexibility is key to a
successful retirement.

Rick spent twenty-five plus years with National City Bank, Progressive Corporation and
Cole National Corporation. He graduated Cum Laude from Ohio University with a Bachelors
Degree in Business Administration, Quantitative Methods.

Co-creator of Ohio CareerConnect, a networking group for those in career transition, Rick
has also been involved in a variety of other local charities and civic organizations over the
years. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Fairhill Partners and the American
Cancer Society, East Central Division. He has also served on the board of the Northeast
Ohio Chapter of Prevent Blindness Ohio and was a member of the Chagrin Highlands Rotary

Club. Rick loves to cook, play tennis and spend time with his wife Emily and their four children.
